Project Description:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The \"Playing Forward and PACE Girls\" project strengthened the life skills and sports practice (soccer) of 141 girls between the ages of 11 and 13, of Mayan Q'eqch\u00ed and Mestizo origin, students in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades of elementary schools located in two marginal urban areas of the municipality of Popt\u00fan, Pet\u00e9n, Guatemala.<\/p>\n

To achieve the objective, four modules of the Personal Development and Professional Empowerment for Girls (P.A.C.E.) program were developed, focusing on the following modules: 1) My environment and me; 2) My body and me; 3) My relationships and me; 4) My aspirations and me; and 5) Soccer sports sessions.<\/p>\n

The life and soccer skills of the 141 participating girls were strengthened and they are now better prepared to face the challenges of daily life and the transition from childhood to adulthood, in which adolescence occurs and involves psychological, emotional and behavioral changes, to which it is necessary to pay special attention.<\/p>\n

Likewise, the participants' soccer skills were strengthened, as well as their leadership attitudes, their self-esteem improved, and they developed greater ownership and understanding of their bodies.<\/p>\n

This combination of activities helps girls to be better prepared to make better decisions about their lives and sexuality, to achieve their life plans, to stay away from harmful practices such as early pregnancies, sexual violence and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV\/AIDS.<\/p>\n

In addition, paradigms that have prevailed in Guatemalan society were broken, since soccer is played mostly by men, due to the macho and patriarchal system that still persists, especially in communities and marginal urban areas in the interior of the country.<\/p>\n

In addition, 90 broadcasts were made of the bilingual Spanish-Q'eqch\u00ed radio program \"El ABC de la Sexualidad\" (The ABC of Sexuality), which was transmitted as an open forum, where young people and parents spoke openly about the aforementioned topics.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
