Eleven interactive training youth camps were carried out, in which 85 Maya Q'eqchí and Mestizo youth volunteer leaders from the AMA Association and the Friendly Spaces of Southern Petén participated.
The first eight camps were directed to the 40 Maya Q'eqchí and Mestizo volunteer youth leaders of the AMA Association and focused on topics such as Comprehensive Education on Sexuality -EIS-, gender equity, Interculturality, Leadership, prevention of sexual violence -VS-, new masculinities, youth entrepreneurship, and economic empowerment.
In three of the 11 camps, Maya Q'eqchí and Mestizo youth volunteer leaders from the Friendly Spaces of Southern Petén participated and developed topics on Life Plan, Human Rights, Vandalism and Drug Addiction, Responsible Sexuality, Prevention of Dating Violence, Responsible Parenthood and the socialization of laws related to each topic.
The camps were held in the municipality of Poptún, Petén and lasted a day and a half and were developed by expert facilitators in the thematic areas of the Adolescent Component of the Petén Southeast Health Area, Human Rights Ombudsman's Office -PDH-, Sexual Violence Clinic of the Poptún Integrated Hospital, Public Ministry, National Civil Police and the AMA Association, who used the inductive-deductive methodology "Learning by doing" with a focus on content multiplication.
The youth volunteers, upon returning to their communities of origin, carried out field replications of the knowledge learned, which they directed to 800 adolescents and youth, as each one replicated it with at least 10 adolescents and youth from their community and in their mother tongue in the case of indigenous communities.
A2. 15 didactic training workshops on Comprehensive Sexuality Education -EIS- and Violence Prevention -VP- (2016-2018).
15 didactic training workshops on Comprehensive Sexuality Education -EIS- and Violence Prevention -PV- were developed, of 25 teaching hours each (five workshops per year), aimed at 221 teachers who teach the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades in 89 elementary schools in rural communities and marginalized urban Maya Q'eqchí and Mestizo areas of the municipalities of San Luis, Poptún, Dolores and El Chal and Santa Ana, Petén.
During the training, teachers strengthened their knowledge on appropriate playful methodologies to address Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and Violence Prevention (VP) according to the grade and age of the children.
The training was developed according to the Series of booklets about CSE and VP of the Ministry of Education and was facilitated by collaborators of the Departmental Directorate of Education of Petén, Adolescent Component, Psychologist and Social Workers of the Health Area Petén South East.
